We are open 7 days a week, every day of the year. Persons in need of shelter should call between 3 pm and 9 pm.

Eligibility: Men and women who need a place to stay, are ages 17 to 35, and are able and willing to work.

Referral: A person needing shelter should call the men’s or women’s shelter directly.

Directions to Open Door
at 414 Ranney. Take Westnedge south out of downtown Kalamazoo. Ranney St. is the first left after the light at Westnedge and Vine. Go left on Ranney. The Open Door is the second house from the end of the block on the left. It is a large yellow duplex.

Directions to Next Door at 1215 W. North St. Take North St. west out of downtown Kalamazoo. After traffic light at Douglas and North go 1 and ½ blocks. The Next Door is a blue-gray duplex on left.

Medicaid - Not applicable.

Bilingual English, French. Can arrange for Spanish translation.

For homeless young adults Shelter, food, and personal mentoring for becoming self-supporting. Structured environment in small shelters with a maximum of 6 people at each shelter.  Use of phone, computer with internet access, kitchen, weight room (at men’s shelter), and bicycles. Guests who are looking for work will receive free bus tokens until they find a job.

For low-wage workers We have apartments and single rooms available for low-wage workers. Participants pay a monthly fee intended to be affordable to those who work fulltime at minimum wage.

More information We are a Christian community of hospitality but we do not require any religious affiliation or observances. We pray together before our weekly family-style meal. We want to serve people of all faiths and religions and people without any formal religion.

Live-in staff - At each shelter a staff member resides in the building in a staff apartment.

Structure
Curfew at 9:30 pm.
No use of alcohol or other drugs is permitted.
Unemployed guests must conduct job search. Guests must find work providing 30 hours of work per week.
Must report all pay and prepare a budget with staff.
Must save 30% of all earnings for future housing.
Each guest must do one chore per day to keep the house in good order.
Persons with drug or alcohol problems are welcome.
Persons with criminal records welcome.
Gay and lesbian persons are welcome.
